Studio Maarten Plomp is a compact architecture studio with extensive practical experience. Its work is rooted in a design approach in which context, craftsmanship, and material expression are central. Our architecture is embedded in the existing city, where the urban context is seen not only as a physical space, but also as a social and societal fabric in which projects take shape.

Every assignment begins with a careful study of the surroundings, its history, functions, and users. This approach enables us to design buildings that feel natural within their context, that convey calm and confidence, and that seem as though they have always been part of their place.

In our work, the focus is gradually shifting from new construction to transformation. Through the adaptive reuse of both recent and older heritage, architects can make an essential contribution to the future resilience of our cities. Not only by transforming monuments, but also by giving existing structures a second life sustainable urban (re)development becomes possible, while respecting what is already there.
